You can understand what kind of device PlayStation VR2 is by reading the following article.

That's why I installed PSVR2.

When playing Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2, the controller is not the PSVR2 Sense controller, but the PS5 standard DualSense wireless controller or a compatible steering controller. This time we will use the standard DualSense wireless controller.

When playing Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2, the world map and each menu screen are displayed like 'a large display that spreads in front of you'.

However, when the race starts, the viewpoint switches to VR. The following movie actually runs on the Tokyo Expressway with Toyota's Sprinter Trueno 1600GT APEX (S.Shigeno Version) in VR mode.

Even in the conventional Gran Turismo 7, it was possible to run from the driver's point of view, but it was only 'the steering wheel and meters were reflected in the subjective point of view'. However, with VR, it becomes a real driver's point of view. Also, you can run in VR mode in almost everything except two-player matches.
If you look down, you can see the steering wheel, instruments, shift lever, foot pedals, etc.

When I turned around.

Looking to the right it looks like this. The scenery seen by PSVR2's OLED 4K HDR display with a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels for one eye is very high quality and bright, and the refresh rate of PSVR2 is 90Hz / 120Hz, so the flowing scenery is displayed very smoothly. When I stepped on , even though I didn't accelerate in reality, I even got the illusion that a little G was applied to my whole body.

The fact that the rearview mirror and side mirrors naturally come into your field of vision gives you the same feeling as if you were actually driving. In addition, it is possible to move the viewpoint that can only be done by actually driving a car, such as ``Looking ahead of the curve instead of in front of you when turning a curve''. The realism has risen by a step. Also, when you hit a wall, you can feel the vibration not only from the controller but also from the PSVR2 headset, so the impact is more realistic.

This time I tried to participate in the race. In the race, not only you but also other cars are running, but the scenes where you overtake and collide with each other are considerably more powerful, and the feeling of driving a live action is unique to the 'Real Driving Simulator'. I felt that it was a different level from the big screen arcade racing games in the game center and the car driving simulators that you can experience at the driver's license driving school.

In Gran Turismo 7, depending on the car, not only the performance but also the interior will differ greatly. Until now, the interior was only shown from the driver's point of view, but VR has made it possible to see the difference more clearly.

Also, if you switch the steering wheel operation to the motion of the DualSense wireless controller instead of the left stick, you can operate the steering wheel with the tilt of the DualSense, making the feeling of driving more realistic.

Of course, if you use the steering controller, you may get closer to the feeling of driving a real car. But even with the DualSense wireless controller, you can enjoy a realistic driving experience. If you like cars, you'll definitely want to experience it, and I felt like I was reminded of the overwhelming evolution of the Gran Turismo series, which has pursued a 'real driving simulator' for over 25 years.

In addition to running, this free update also has a 'VR showroom' where you can take a closer look at your own car in the garage. You can see the state of the VR showroom in the following movie.
You can get close to your favorite parts of your car and take a closer look.

In this free update, in addition to PSVR2 full support, a function that allows you to play against the AI 'Gran Turismo Sophie' developed by Sony was also installed for a limited time. Gran Turismo Sophie is an AI that boasts the ability to overwhelm the world champion of Gran Turismo 7, and the development history and actual race pattern can be seen in the following article.

At the time of writing the article, you can play against Gran Turismo Sophie on 4 courses: Tsukuba Circuit, Alsace Village, Trial Mountain Circuit, and Suzuka Circuit.

The price of PlayStation VR2 is 74,980 yen including tax.
